About Us
Gordon Environmental, Inc. (GEI) is a New Mexico environmental consulting firm specializing in solid waste engineering, permitting, environmental monitoring, and construction quality assurance (CQA). GEI professionals have been providing professional engineering services in New Mexico since 1988, and in 1995 we established a full-time presence in Bernalillo to serve our growing clientele in the Southwest.
Since its inception, GEI has been retained to provide quality professional engineering services for public and private sector landfills and transfer stations in the state. GEI has obtained more New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) solid waste permits than any other firm, and we have been awarded three international Design Excellence Awards by SWANA since 1997 for our New Mexico projects.
Our business model is centered on retaining our current clientele by
focusing on core solid waste engineering services.
Best practices include involving senior solid waste professionals in
every aspect of the Project. No
other New Mexico consulting firm offers the combined local leadership of
five professional engineers with over 100 years of applicable experience.
GEI routinely uses Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles in its
solid waste engineering projects.
Examples include:
- Optimizing use of on-site materials to avoid fuel and environmental impacts of hauling in off-site materials. For instance, GEI typically designs “evapotranspiration” (ET) final covers and protective soil layers by pre-qualifying on-site soils.
- Providing economic feasibility analyses and landfill masterplanning that reduces earth movement, increases efficiencies, and maximizes productivity.
- Making recommendations to our clients to increase waste diversion and recycling; and reduce the carbon footprint required for hauling and waste disposal.
GEI is currently responsible for the engineering design and permitting of
ten regional landfills in New Mexico.
For those projects and several others, we routinely provide a full
range of landfill design, monitoring, compliance, and CQA services.
GEI has designed and
permitted over 80% of the landfill capacity now available in New Mexico.
Over the past 20 years, GEI team members have developed a positive
working relationship with the
The professional staff in GEI’s Bernalillo Office are dedicated to providing
quality landfill engineering services in New Mexico.
GEI has prepared and submitted six Landfill Permit Applications to NMED
(Sandoval County, City of Roswell, Southwest Landfill, San Juan, Valencia, and
Camino Real) and three mid-term reviews (Sand Point, Southwest, and Corralitos
Landfills) in the last 36 months.
GEI has provided construction plans, bid documents, and construction quality
assurance for ten new landfill cells since 2005 (> 100 acres of composite
liner).
